2001 Hugo & John W. Campbell Award winners
During the Millennium Philcon this weekend, the Hugo for best novel went to J.K. Rowling for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. That's quite a stretch from the previous winners, which were mainly (hard) science fiction books. Calculating God by Robert J. Sawyer looked more like a part of the Hugo tradition. I guess the voters wanted to acknowledge Rowling's huge success with readers.

08/10/01 update: some reactions by Locus readers.

17/11/01 update: Robert Sawyer complained about the results, as commented by readers of Science Fiction Weekly.
