Surveys show that staying in good health is among the most important things in life for people. Small wonder then that the stories where medicine meets SF describe humanity either facing its doom or gaining supreme power. On one hand, plagues or viruses go on a killing spree. On the other hand, technological progress allows us to extend our life up to immortality, or to alter it dramatically through genetic manipulations such as cloning.
