A first novel. An astronaut receives a head injury in orbit, and returns to Earth to create a pocket artificial universe on the Nevada desert using the power of his mind alone. The main character, a near-failure private investigator with experience in the weird and unusual, is hired by a secretive government agency to penetrate the anomalous reality and either wake up the astronaut or kill him to prevent his artificial universe from consuming the real one. Once inside the sexy parody of what the future might have looked like to a boy growing up in the 1950’s, the PI discovers the love of his life in a personal secretary, a refinement of his real, unavailable secretary back in Chicago. If he completes his contract, the woman he has yearns for will dissolve into nothingness. If he doesn’t, the injured astronaut, displaying the mental powers of a petulant god, will find him and kill him. Mix of humor and seriousness.
