Eight centuries before the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, the religions of older gods still held sway over the civilized world. It was in this era of antiquity, before the great religions converted the people of the world and condemned the ancient arts of magic as works of the devil, that a council of seven of the great city's most powerful magicians came forward to announce that they had banished Namtar, the black winged demon and fallen elder God, to the Abyss. Rumors, spoken in hushed tones in the most quiet and private places, told of dark forces within the city; the legacy of an evil thought to have been forever banished.
