Visiting the Scilly Isles, Sarah makes friends with Lew, a teenage boatman, whom she considers trapped in this tourist paradise. She helps Mr Burrows, an amateur archaeologist, who is convinced he has found a Giant’s Grave, and links it to the myth of the sleeping Titan, imprisoned on an island in the far west. As Mr Burrows and Sarah pursue their quest, the islands seem to be physically rising against them. Each day, Sarah visits a fresh island and discovers a story which links to the central one. Lew tries desperately to stop them risking their lives in a final voyage.
