In this first book in the Delos series, a young noblewoman, Zoe Arete, prepares to face her destiny, as the once closely allied planets of Delos and Chios prepare for a war over their energy resources. The Chians have accused Delos of cheating them of energy rights - and everything the Delians do to prove their innocence only makes things look worse. Armed by her faith and the challenges of her training, Zoe, daughter of a dead hero and a Starforce officer mother, has to face the dangers and decisions that may yet save two planets. In the process, she gives her mother and her teacher and fellow aristocrat, Peter Minyas, an academic with a past, some rather bad moments - which is nothing on what the giant earthworms of Chios give her. However this conflict is resolved, for everyone involved, nothing will ever be the same again.
