	A tough human on Earth is biologically engineered in order to deal with an ominously vague threat, and finds that for centuries Earth has been despoiled of its best fighting men, who are taken off-planet. The hero, a professional soldier, is sent to observe a war and learns of the disappearance of many people over the ages. He is surgically enhanced, but eventually captured and his brain is imprisoned in an alien fighting machine. He becomes the leader of an insurrection by other imprisoned and battles the aliens. There are links from Table of Contents to text. This is an extra large print publication specifically formatted for people who have trouble reading ordinary size print. The print in this version is equivalent to 28 point type; the reader can reduce the size if desired.
