Aka The ninth Day.
Young adults will explore the meaning of the universe in this futuristic story of one humanoid's valiant attempt to revive the human race 600 years after its extinction. When the 100,000 survivors of a disastrous asteroid collision die from a deadly virus in 2305 AD, humankind's only hope of survival is the parting instructions from Joe, a human master, to Samuel, one of the early humanoids (human-like robots). The story opens 600 years later, when Samuel is both smart and technologically advanced enough to attempt re-inception—the ignition of the spark of life into his former human masters' bodies. While Samuel and the humanoids strive to fulfill Joe's last wishes, underlying themes consider the makeup of human life, the possibilities of biotechnology, and whether humans are the creators or the victims of their universe.
