The new descendants of magic are in grave danger when Emerys has his body stolen from him as soon as he is born. After his father sacrifices his own life so that Emerys may live, he is found by one of his cousins, Andia, who looks after him as she takes him to his new home. Presented with danger the next day, he finds out that everything Andia said was true. He is a part of things whether he likes it or not. Of course, this wouldn't be much of a story if one of the main characters didn't become involved with his "watcher," later meeting up with the demon that killed his mother. This book and the others to come involve Tuatha de Danann and God and the Goddess.
