Slain in battle, David Alexander reawakes to discover he is the last descendant of James, the brother of Jesus. He also learns that the mysterious figure that killed him was more than a Confederate raider, much more. Aware that he needs spiritual training, David seeks assistance in Rome; he finds the Guardians. This secret network of spiritual warriors has been waiting for a champion to fulfill an ancient prophecy. When a ritualistic murder is linked to the recent McKinley Assassination, the Guardians realize a deeper, darker plot. In a race against time, David battles an army led by a savage, soulless creature hell-bent on denying the world a timeless revelation. In what will become the final chapter, their last crusade the Guardians, led by David, sacrifice everything in a last, desperate attempt to thwart the manifestation of evil itself.
