By the beginning of the 23rd century, Earth’s atmosphere is no longer fouled by chemical smog. Fossil fuels have been banned and all electricity is generated by orbiting Clevite-powered generators then beamed to the surface. Crime has been eliminated. All parolees are encouraged to migrate to the colonial planets. They are promised exotic arrival celebrations and high-paying jobs as incentives to make the long, dangerous trip in Hiber-Stacis. Hoping for a fresh start, Sam Brodin and Janet Scott are two among thousands who travel to the distant planet Cleveland, where Clevite is mined and processed. But this hell-world shrouded in purple haze and ravaged by orange flames holds a future filled with deception and death. Only a desperate act of terrorism aided by the secrets of Fire Lake can help them escape the nightmare and return to Earth to tell their story; that is, if anyone will listen.
