Cal, a native Martian, has a grudge against the Earth. He can never land on Earth, for its gravity would kill him. And now Earth scientist want to terraform Venus to create another world for Earthlings, and exclude all Martians.

Brad is the leader of Venus terraforming team. Cal's attempts to sabotage his mission leave Brad and his crew stranded on the hellish surface of Venus. The only way to save them is to start the terraformation process. The only problem is that Brad is about a kilometer under a future ocean.

Seeing only by occasional lightning flashes, they must reach higher ground before the newly forming ocean engulfs them. While they battle through torrent rains, they hope two incoming comets do not destroy them.

Years later some of the terraformation team travels to Alpha Centauri. There they discover the remains of an alien civilization in the most unlikely place. But their exploration is cut short as Cal reveals himself and his revenge.
