It is a time of violence and upheaval. After years of tyrannical rule that enforced clean living for the “good of society,” there has come a time of liberation, both politically and sexually. Hedonism reigns, and new technology has pushed the limits of humanity. Those comforted by the conformity of the old rule find themselves unable to cope with the changes in society and seek retribution through violence and terror. Injured by war, his faith destroyed by his family, Thomas Kerrigan finds himself in the heart of class war as his disintegrating life forces him deeper into the vice district. Among these pleasure sellers is a new breed of people: mixers. Genetically altered people, some no longer recognizably human, populate the brothels and clubs. For normal society, they epitomize human decadence; for Kerrigan they may rekindle his lost humanity, if he can survive the waves of terror heading their way.
