	A Hive probe is discovered inside our solar system in 2018. After careful investigation, the only conclusion is that it is an advanced scout of some sort. Photographs of deep space in the direction of the probe's radio transmissions reveal an alien fleet on course to Earth and it will arrive in three years. Russian and the US must resurrect the NERVA nuclear rocket motor and re-engine the partly complete Mars Explorer to send a manned mission to the probe and recover alien technology. China, now isolated and aggressive wants to obtain alien technology for themselves and builds an Orion spacecraft powered by nuclear bombs to get to the probe first. The Chinese ship is destroyed leading to the fall of China's new hard line government. An Earth fleet powered by NERVA based nuclear rocket motors meets the invaders in a surprise attack but is only partially successful in destroying their fleet. The Insectoid aliens learn like computers and when the battle is again fought in near Earth space, all but a handful of the Earth's defenses are destroyed. Only one Earth ship remains, The Kraken, built from reverse engineered alien technology. This ship manned by its builder, Colin Hewette and crewed by the engineering team, a retired Israeli Air Force pilot and Colin's love interest, Marina Asamova, must take on the Hive Queen's control ship.
