Derek J Goodman was born and raised in Wisconsin. At eighteen he moved to Denver to attend the Colorado Institute of Art, but he became disillusioned with the school's view of art and left after a year and a half.

Deciding that writing was his true calling, Derek spent the next several years working odd jobs - everything from video store clerk to sandwich maker to factory worker - to support himself when rejection letters wouldn't. He currently lives once again in Wisconsin.
