Scott T. Grusky was born in Hollywood, California on 12/14/61. He spent his formative childhood in Pacific Palisades, and received a B.A. in mathematics/economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. After a brief stint as a jeweler, he attended Harvard University, where he earned an M.A. in economics. Upon graduating, he served as a research consultant to Southern California Edison. His quantitative skills impressed others, but left him feeling somewhat hollow.
Fascinated by the dark underbelly of technology, Scott decided to pursue a career as a writer in 1986. He spent the next decade laboring over Silicon Sunset. Meanwhile, he wrote screenplays, short stories, and journalism articles. While researching a cyberpunk tale in early 1993, Scott ventured onto The Sierra Network, one of the first BBS's to provide real-time online chatting. It was there, in the realm of cyberspace, that he met his wife-to-be. A year and a half later--on June 2, 1995--Scott became the first man to be legally married online. Yes, he admits it is ironic.
