Barry Harrington was born in California and has lived there and on the East Coast. While learning the author's craft he studied literature and drama (as well as taught Creative Writing) at the University of California at Berkeley, and sold two double-off Broadway plays.

In the early 1980s he met Ray Bradbury, who remains an influence and mentor to this day, and legendary editor-agent William G. Thompson in 1987, with whom he still works.
