Tom Holzel was born in Berlin at the beginning of WW II. He grew up in Upper Montclair, NJ and received a degree in economics at Dartmouth College. As a quarter-miler, he set his high school and college records. His favorite subjects were religion and a special set of courses in propaganda analysis.
He has been a sales & marketing executive in numerous companies, small and large, American, French, and now English. He lives in England with his wife Dianne.
His first book, The Mystery of Mallory & Irvine (with Audrey Salkeld) (1985) has become a classic and has been translated into 5 languages with a revised edition out in 1999.He mounted an expedition to Mt. Everest in 1986 to search for the body and camera of those two Everest pioneers to determine if they had reached the summit in 1924 before perishing on the descent.
