Joe Vadalma was born and raised on the near north side of
Chicago, an area notorious for its gangsters and crooked
politicians. Dillinger was shot at the movie theatre he
attended as a youngster. From the time he learned to read,
he loved fantasy and science fiction. His early influences
were the movie The Wizard of Oz, science fiction pulp
magazines, and fantasy and science-fiction novels. After
high school, he attended electronic technician school and
went to work for a jukebox firm. At age twenty he was
drafted into the army where he learned microwave repair and
sent to Germany. While in the service he married the woman
he would spend the rest of life with. After his discharge
from the army, he went to work for a major computer company
and became a technical writer. He began his fiction writing
career after he retired by writing short fiction published
by E-zines. His other hobbies are home improvement projects
and computer adventure games. He has four grown daughters,
ten mostly grown grandchildren and a four-year-old great
granddaughter.
